• Conditions of Eligibility
  • Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities / institutions recognised by UGC in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science etc. are eligible for this Test. The Other Backward Classes (OBC) belonging to non-creamy layer / Scheduled Caste (SC) / Scheduled Tribe (ST) / Persons with disability (PWD) category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s degree or equivalent examination are eligible for this Test.
  • Candidates who have appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree (final year) examination and whose result is still awaited OR candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed may also apply for this Test. However, such candidates will be admitted provisionally and shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Assistant Professor eligibility only after they have passed their Master’s degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of OBC (Non-creamy layer) / SC / ST / PWD (Persons with disability) category candidates). Such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified.
  • The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in NET.
  • Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. The candidates whose post-graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects in item No. 9, may appear in a related subject.
  • Candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer) / SC / ST / PWD category are required to submit attested copy of the category Certificate along with online printout of their Application Forms (obtained while applying on-line). Other candidates are not required to submit any certificates / documents in support of their eligibility along with printout of their Application Form. Therefore, the candidates, in their own interest, must satisfy themselves about their eligibility for the Test. In the event of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission at any stage, their candidature will be cancelled and they shall be liable for legal action.
  • Candidates having post-graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University / Institute or foreign degree / diploma / certificate awarded by the foreign University / Institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma / degree / certificate with Master’s degree of recognized Indian universities from Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. (www.aiuweb.org)
• Exemption (Eligibility for Assistant Professor)
  • NET / SLET / SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET / SLET / SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions.
  • The candidates who have passed the UGC / CSIR JRF examination prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET.
  • For SET Candidates : The candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 1st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible to apply for Assistant Professor anywhere in India. For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities / colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET.

• Junior Research Fellowship :
  Not more than 28 years as on 01.06.2014. A relaxation upto 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC (Non-creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website : www.ncbc.nic.in) / SC / ST / PWD categories and to women applicants. Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority. Three years’ relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing L.L.M. Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances.
• Assistant Professor :
  There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

• Examination Fee

• Mode of Payment
  • After filling all the details for applying online for NET, the computer will automatically generate your ‘Bank Challan’ indicating your details therein. A print out of this Bank Challan may be taken by the candidate for payment through cash, on the next working day (after generating the challan from www.ugcnetonline.in) at any branch of State Bank of India (SBI) alongwith Bank charges (commission) of Rs. 40/-.
  • Two days after the payment of fee at SBI through filled Bank Challan, the candidate is required to check the status of fee payment at UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in) and if the status is 'OK' the candidate will be able to take the printout of online Application Form (one copy), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.
    
    The candidate has to attach the UGC copy of the Bank Challan with the printout of online Application Form which he/she has to submit to the Registrar / Principal of UGC-NET Coordinating Institution opted by the candidate.
    
    Please note that fee submitted by any other mode like money order, demand draft, IPO etc. will be rejected. Fee once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Check List for filling the Online Application Form
The candidates are advised to ensure the following points before filling the Online Application Forms :

• Whether they fulfil the eligibility conditions for the Test as prescribed under the heading ‘CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY’ and ‘AGE LIMIT’.
• That they have filled their CATEGORY, viz., GEN/OBC (non-creamy layer)/SC/ ST/ PWD, in the relevant column correctly.
• That they have filled their subject and NET Coordinating Institution and code in the relevant column correctly.
• That the Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates have filled the relevant column in the Online Application Form. Only PWD candidates have to fill this column and the others have to leave it blank.
• Whether they have signed the printout of Online Application Form, Admission Card and Attendance Slip.
• Whether they have enclosed the required documents with the Application Form before submission at the NET Coordinating Institution.
• Whether they have kept a copy of the submitted documents for their own record.

The candidates should send the following documents with printout on separate A-4 size papers of their online Application Form (one copy) and Attendance Slip (one copy) :

• Original copy of Bank Challan (UGC copy).
• Attested copies of OBC (Non creamy layer)/SC/ST/Persons with Disability (PWD) certificates, in case applicable.
• Certificate of educational qualification/research experience, in case applicable, entitling the candidate for age relaxation, duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.

• How to Apply (Applications have to be submitted online)
  • Steps for submission of Online Application Form
    • Candidate seeking admission to the Test (UGC-NET, June, 2014) must apply online (i.e. www.ugcnetonline.in OR through a link available on the UGC website : www.ugc.ac.in).
    • Before applying Online, the candidates must possess the Scanned passport size photograph in JPEG format of less than 300 kb.
    • After filling all the details for applying online for NET, the computer will automatically generate your ‘Bank Challan’ indicating your details therein A print out of this Bank Challan may be taken by the candidate for payment through cash, on the next working day (after generating the challan from www.ugcnetonline.in) at any branch of State Bank of India (SBI) alongwith Bank charges (commission) of Rs. 40/-.
    • Two days after the payment of fee at SBI through filled Bank Challan, the candidate is required to check the status of fee payment at UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in) and if the status is ‘OK’ the candidate will be able to take the printout of online Application Form (one copy), Attendance Slip (one copy) and Admission Card (one copy) on separate A-4 size papers.
    • Candidates belonging to OBC (non-creamy layer) (as per the Central list of OBC available on website : www.ncbc.nic.in )/SC/ST/PWD must enclose the attested copy of certificate for the same.
    • Candidates seeking age relaxation must enclose the certificate of educational qualification/research experience entitling the candidates for age relaxation.
    • The Application (consisting of one copy of printout of online application form and one copy of Attendance Slip) along with Bank Challan (in original) and other required documents (as mentioned in item No. 13) must reach the Registrar/Principal of the Coordinating Institution on or before 15.05.2014.
    • The candidates should retain the print out of online Admission card with them and will bring it on the day of examination after affixing the identical passport size photograph. The photograph must be signed across by the candidate after affixing, so that a part of the signature spreads over the Admit Card. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/ Principal of the College/ class-I Gazetted officer.
    • It may be noted that no Admission Card will be issued by the respective NET Coordinating Institutions. Candidates are requested to ascertain their venue of the test/seating arrangement from the website of the respective NET Coordinating Institution and note it in their printout of online Admission Card at least 10 days before the Test, i.e. upto 19th June, 2014.
    • The candidates are required to bring a photo identity card also along with their printout of online Admission Card on the day of examination.
    • It may be pointed out that noting of seating arrangement/venue of test from the website of respective NET Coordinating Institutions will be the sole responsibility of candidate only. The NET Coordinating Institutions will not inform to the candidate separately regarding the seating arrangement/Venue of Test.
    • Before applying Online, candidates are advised to go through detailed notification available on UGC website (i.e. www.ugcnetonline.in OR through a link available on the UGC website : www.ugc.ac.in). Please note that Fee submitted through any other mode like Money Order, Demand Draft, IPO etc. will be summarily rejected.
    • The envelope containing the Application Form should be superscribed "UGC NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY TEST FOR JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AND ELIGIBILITY FOR ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, JUNE, 2014".
    • The candidates must affix their recent identical passport size photographs, at the places indicated, on the printout of Online Application Form and Attendance Slip must sign across the photograph after it is affixed so that a part of the signature spreads over the Application Form and Attendance Slip beyond the photograph. Besides, it should be duly attested by the Head of the University Department/ Principal of the College/Class-I Gazetted Officer.
    • In order to avoid last minute rush, the candidates are advised to apply early enough. UGC will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature in submission of online application during last days.

• The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be held on 29th June, 2014 (SUNDAY) in two separate sessions as under :

  Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be evaluated.
  
  Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
  
  Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
  
  All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options).
  
  The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet provided along with the Test Booklet.
  
  The detailed instructions for filling up the OMR Sheet will be uploaded on UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in or www.ugc.ac.in) in the last week of May, 2014. It may be noted that instructions to candidates will not be sent to the candidate by post.
  
  PROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT :
  This will comprise of following steps :
  Step I : Minimum marks to be obtained in NET for considering a candidate for the award of JRF and eligibility for Assistant Professor :
  The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below :

  Step II : Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.
  
  Step III : Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared NET qualified for eligibility for Assistant Professor only.
  
  Step IV : A separate merit list for the award of JRF will be prepared from amongst the NET qualified candidates figuring in the merit list prepared under step III.
  
  It may be noted that the above qualifying criteria decided by UGC is final and binding.
• For Persons with Disability (Visually Challenged candidates) thirty minutes’ compensatory time shall be provided separately for paper-I and Paper-II. For paper-III, forty five minutes’ compensatory time shall be provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a graduate in a subject other than that of the candidate. UGC will also provide the Test Booklets of Paper-I, II & III in Braille alongwith usual Test Booklets as provided to other candidates.
  
  Those Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged) candidates who are not in a position to write in their own hand-writing can also avail these services by making prior request (at least one week before the date of UGC-NET) in writing to the Co-ordinator of the NET Coordinating Institution. Compensatory time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged) candidates.
  
  The facility of Scribe is applicable only for candidates with disability of 40% or more.
  
  The candidate has the discretion of opting for his/her own scribe or has to request the Co-ordinator of the Coordinating Institution for the same in writing at least one week in advance of the test. In such instances the candidate is allowed to meet the scribe a day before the examination so as to verify whether the scribe is suitable or not. Those candidates who opt for their own scribe have to produce the scribe before the Co-ordinator along with her/his certificates of educational qualifications at least one day before the test.
• Syllabus of Test: All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering entire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all NET subjects can be downloaded from the UGC Website www.ugc.ac.in and are also available in the libraries of all Indian Universities. UGC will not send the syllabus to individual candidates.
• In case of any discrepancy found in the English and Hindi versions, the questions in English version shall be taken as final.

*The candidates with Master’s Degree in Geography (with specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics / Statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject "Population Studies" (Code 15).

**The candidates with Master’s Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear in the subject ‘Women Studies’ (Code 74).

The Coordinating Institutions with their respective codes are given below. Printout of Online Application Form should be addressed to the Registrar / Principal of the respective Coordinating Institutions.

Olease note that change of Coordinating Institutions will not be allowed under ant circumstances.
